Portillo’s Buena Park: Experience Authentic Chicago Flavors

Oh my gosh, what an amazing sandwich that Italian beef was with the hot peppers the fries so crisp and fresh dipped into the cheese sauce that’s made with real cheese and don’t get me started on that chocolate cake shake how amazing the atmosphere is so cool there’s pictures and memorabilia everywhere You stand in line and you pay for your food. You wait to be called and you find a seat them indoor seating outdoor seating. They even have a drive-through if you have not been to this location you should definitely check it out. It has a very old diner kind of vibe to it. The staff were very nice and very helpful. The bathrooms were very clean and parking was very easy to find 10 out of 10. Totally recommend the food is absolutely delicious. The cake slice that we got for my daughter‘s birthday was still a little bit warm and so delicious. We shared a shake because it was just too much food for one person. We didn’t need to get the combo because in one order of fries with some cheese sauce, two sandwiches and a cake shake perfect for two people. They also have an app that you can join up and earn some points. Get some free french fries and a free cake slice for your birthday. This place is great. The shakes come with a whole slice of cake in the shake. Everything is made to order. The bread is super fresh. Can’t wait to come back and try the Chicago dog.

We went through the DT so I can't say a lot about the service, but we got our food fast and accurate. We got a wet Italian hot beef, fries, and a burger. The italian hot beef we great. It was VERY wet. You can get it wet or not wet, but even the not wet is still pretty wet. The burger and fries were like better quality wendys. This is the best way I can describe them.

My daughter flew in from Missouri on her college break, and we went out to lunch. She had never been to Portillo’s, so I decided to take her there to try the steak sandwich. She definitely enjoyed it. We also ordered fries with the cheese dipping sauce, which she liked as well. She mentioned she had never had a sandwich that was “wet,” but she ended up really enjoying it. I always get mine with extra au jus for dipping. Portillo’s is one of those places that’s just consistent—you always know exactly what you’re going to get.

Portillo's is super fun. I've never been to a Chicago location, so I can't compare, but it really feels stylish and full of character. The food is pretty good. It's fast food, generally, but with a little extra flair. Of course, I got the Italian Beef (and a shirt!) and it was wet, salty, and delicious. The menu is pretty large, with lots of things I'd like to try on return. The service was quick, and the decor was dense and themed, which was fitting considering we stopped after a day at Knott's Berry Farm. It was a comforting, filling, and satisfying meal at the end of a busy day, and isn't that what fast food is all about?

Portillo’s in definitely brings that Chicago flavor! I ordered the Italian Beef & Sausage sandwich and a Chocolate Cake Shake, and it really hit close to what you’d get at the originals back in Chicago. The beef was juicy, the sausage was flavorful, and together they had that classic savory combo Portillo’s is known for. While nothing quite replaces eating it in Chicago, this Buena Park location gets pretty dang close and definitely enough to satisfy anyone craving the real Chicago experience out here in SoCal. Highly recommend!

My family is from Chicago and Portillo’s is always a great treat for us to go out. The atmosphere, the food, but now, the staff! We had the pleasure of interacting with Martha Aguilar (she was so amazing that we asked for her name). We came here to celebrate my grandmas 81st birthday (this is her favorite restaurant in the world). Martha helped her find a seat while I parked the car, she was attentive, even offered us help with a bag, and tossed our garbage away for us! This is customer service, I love it. I lived in Chicago for 20 years and Portillos is definitely one of the things I miss. It is like coming home! The Italian beef and cheese burger is a must. Hot dogs and chili cheese dogs are superb! Remember to order cheese sauce for your fries. Their milkshakes are also delicious. Last but not least try the chocolate cake. The frosting is a bit too sweet for my taste but it is demanded by my niece and nephews for their birthdays (yes you can order a whole cake to go) Enjoy this piece of Chicago on “Los Angeles”

Chicago native. Accidentally ordered plain hot dogs which was disappointing to open and see. They gave us enough condiments for one to build our own. "Server" was ok, nothing special. Seemed like a bit of an imposition when asked to correct. Food was good, chocolate shake was large and very good. Fries are decent (fun crinkle cut). Atmosphere is fun. Lots to take in. Will be back.
